30th Anniversary Gala

MEE’s 30th Anniversary Gala Benefit Performance – An Extraordinary Event!

MEE enjoyed one of the largest audiences in its history as we celebrated 30 years of great music–making and community outreach at our black tie optional gala performance and fundraiser. Held on July 22 in the Peabody Essex Museum’s elegant East India Marine Hall, this program was the centerpiece of our 30th Anniversary Season as the North Shore’s resident chamber music ensemble. The program featured a performance of Journey, A Seagoing Narrative with Music and Listening to the Sea Winds, two extraordinary works by noted American composer Howard Rovics inspired by North Shore history and commissioned by MEE in 2006 and 2008.

Narrated by celebrated actor Gordon Baird, Journey, A Seagoing Narrative with Music drew the audience into a spellbinding tale set in the era of tall sailing ships. The poetry of the late Poet of Gloucester Vincent Ferrini was woven into the music of “Listening to the Sea Winds.” Both pieces were a treat for theater and poetry lovers, history buffs and music aficionados!

Proceeds from the Gala support MEE's important outreach programs for seniors and youths.
