Piano Trios of Haydn, Beethoven and Smetana
The Annual Norbert and Francesca Benotti Memorial Concert
The elegant charm of the Haydn Trio in F (1766) introduces us to the realm of the piano trio. With strength, passion and exuberance, Beethoven’s Trio in E Flat, Op. 70 No. 2 (1809), establishes its mature and enduring legacy. The Smetana Trio in G Minor (1855) completes our cycle. Written in the tragic depths of the composer’s loss of his small daughter, it is a profound monument to her joyous life and to the universal experiences of anguish and redemption, rich in beauty and expression, touching the hearts of each of us.
