Cellist Lynn Nowels performs in Boston with groups including The Cantata Singers & Ensemble, Emmanuel Music, & Pro Arte Chamber Orchestra. She was a founding member of the Artemis String Quartet which specialized in the quartets of Shostakovich. A native of Portland, Oregon, she studied at the University of Washington School of Music and was
awarded a fellowship to the Blossom Festival Chamber Music School, the Cleveland Orchestra’s summer training program, where she worked with Josef Gingold & Leonard Rose. A highlight of her early time in Boston was string quartet study with Eugene Lehner at the New England Conservatory.
In addition to her long standing involvement with Music at Eden’s Edge, Ms. Nowels performed chamber music for eleven seasons at the International Musical Arts Institute under the direction of esteemed violinist Eric Rosenblith. She also has appeared in concert in Germany, the midwest, and up and down the west coast. Ms. Nowels has served on the faculties of Wheaton College and the Waldorf School of Lexington. She maintains a private teaching studio, is a faculty member at the Arts Ahimsa Music Festival at Belvoir Terrace in Lenox, Massachusetts and has recently founded a cello program at Dorchester’s young Bridge Boston Charter School where she teaches twenty four budding second, third, and fourth grade cellists.
She has recorded for the CRI and New World labels.
